Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy for Financial Aid
SAP Policy for Financial Aid
Federal regulations require students receiving financial aid to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress. CPU evaluates SAP at the end of each payment period.
SAP Standards
Qualitative Standard (GPA)
Undergraduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0. Graduate students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students falling below these thresholds will be placed on financial aid warning.
Quantitative Standard (Pace)
Students must successfully complete at least 67% of all attempted credit hours. Withdrawals, incompletes, and repeated courses count as attempted but not completed credits.
Maximum Time Frame
Students must complete their program within 150% of the published program length. For example, a 120-credit bachelor's program must be completed within 180 attempted credits.
Warning, Suspension, and Appeal
Students failing SAP receive a warning for one term. Continued failure results in financial aid suspension. Students may appeal with documented extenuating circumstances and an approved academic plan.
